PE and Sport

Sports Premium 2018 – 2019

In St Edward’s Primary School we try and give our children a breadth of experiences in PE. Children are given opportunity’s to participate in activities such as games, dance, gymnastics and athletics. They partake in competitions and every single child is included in physical education.

Our extended school programme has become a great success and children take part with enjoyment and are proud of their success.

In PE children learn to work together and develop their partnership work, they work in small groups, large groups, as a whole class and individually. Children learn about Physical Education in a variety of ways through Maths, Science, Literacy and other subjects. Our children understand that PE is not a stand-alone lesson but that they can be learning about Physical Education in the classroom indoors and in the outdoor environment.

During the winter months children are required to bring a Winter Kit into school. This kit consists of: a jumper, warm trousers, appropriate footwear, hates, gloves, a scarf and a waterproof coat. For the warmer months our school kit consists of: navy shorts, a white t-shirt and black plimsolls.

Children enjoy taking part in an extra 30 minutes of PE during their school day. This happens during break times and during lessons. This engages children in a fun and lively way, as they learn easy routines and have a great time! The benefits and impact on each child are that:

  • They have a sense of well-being.
  • They have a stronger sense of self-esteem.
  • Their co-ordination improves along with their rhythm and timing.
  • They show improved concentration and application to tasks.
  • Behaviour improves.
  • The children are more hydrated.http://www.stedwardsrcprimaryschool.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Sports-Premium-2018-2019.pdf
